Railway Signalling. The foundation.

Four lines of work, one habit: nothing leaves the factory unless it is fail-safe. Partner to Indian Railways across every zone since 1987.

Digital Axle Counters

A section is clear when every axle that came in has gone out.

The counter head sits on the rail and reads each wheel in and out; the evaluator keeps the tally. No track circuit, so no ballast leakage, no rail bonding, far less to maintain. Eldyne brought the technology to Indian Railways with Alcatel in 1998, won the 1st RDSO approval for single-section and multi-section counters in 2004, and has supplied the system through the Alcatel, Thales and now Hitachi Rail lineage ever since.

How it works: axles counted in, axles counted out.

Approval

1st RDSO-approved DAC in India, single-section and multi-section, 2004

Platform

AzLM, including the AzLS single-section variant, and AzLM 7.6 with retrofittable clamp-and-hole-type rail contacts, enabling easy installation on high-speed lines

Installed base

48,000+ detection points supplied; 42,052 installed and operational

Reliability

Top recognition in RDSO's Asset Reliability, 2024

Support

24×7 annual maintenance contracts, 99% uptime, all zones

Technology partner

Hitachi Rail (formerly Thales, formerly Alcatel); Key Industrial Partner since 2018

Detection points by zone

Every zone of Indian Railways, plus Kolkata Metro.

Map of India marking the zonal headquarters of Indian Railways. Seventeen zones: Northern, North Western, North Central, West Central, South Central, South Western, North Eastern, East Central, Northeast Frontier, South East Central, East Coast and Southern Railway, with Western and Central Railway sharing Mumbai and Eastern, South Eastern and Metro Railway sharing Kolkata.

Q-Series Safety Signalling Relays

Where we started. Still the part we are proudest of.

A signalling relay has one job: when it must drop, it drops. Gravity, not springs. Contacts that cannot weld shut. We have made them in Kolkata since 1987, and relays we fitted in 1993 at South Eastern Railways are still in service.

How it works: pick-up on current, drop by gravity.

Testing

Materials are rigorously tested in-house for compatibility, reliability, and performance

Materials

Premium-grade components from approved vendors

People

Assembly team with 12+ years' average experience, standardised build process

Track record

Units installed in 1993 still operational on Indian Railways

Cost

Priced for lifecycle, not the tender: lowest cost of ownership over decades in service

EPC & Signalling projects

Design, supply, install, commission. One team, one handover.

Station and section signalling delivered end to end: survey and circuit design, equipment supply, cabling, installation, testing and commissioning with the railway. 60+ projects across India, over 25 projects commissioned, and 43 in progress, run by a robust project management team with global sourcing behind it.

How it works: route set, signal cleared, route released.

Scope

Panel interlocking, route relay interlocking, electronic interlocking, automatic block sections, level crossings, cabling and power

Delivery model

Turnkey EPC, or supply and supervision

Recent

Dumdum Yard, Eastern Railway: electronic interlocking and multi-section axle counters across 344 routes. RVNL's 1st high-value EPC signalling contract, commissioned.

Engineering services

Health monitoring design, factory and site acceptance testing, survey and gradient study, outdoor installation support, sub-system programming

24×7 maintenance and support

200 engineers, every zone, every hour.

Comprehensive annual maintenance contracts for axle counter systems began in 2012 and now cover the network. Field engineers are posted in every zone so a fault is met by someone who knows the yard, not a call centre.
